Alok Mohan (45), an IPS officer of the 1987 batch, took charge as the Inspector-General of Police (Western Range) at the police headquarters here on Friday.
Mr. Mohan, who was earlier Inspector-General of Police (Vigilance and Enforcement), Karnataka Power Transmission Corporation Ltd., will be the senior-most police officer in charge of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi, Uttara Kannada and Chikmagalur districts.
Speaking to presspersons on the occasion, Mr. Alok Mohan IPS lauded his predecessor Gopal B. Hosur and stressed that he would continue the good work. “We will listen to everybody, but in the end the law will define the boundaries of the police force under me,” he said.
He conceded that the present conditions were “vastly different” from those of social unrest that prevailed and necessitated the appointment of Mr. Hosur to the Western Range. “The situation is peaceful in the range and Mr. Hosur has done a good job. The prime objective will be to continue in the same vein,” he said.
